Hi Reg. I set up a public playlist on my channel called "Murder on Music Row" which contains the three great versions: BillyRay, Jackson/Strait, and Larry Cordle. Scroll down on the right about halfway down my channel, look for BillyRay as the playlist icon, and enjoy all three. I'll leave it up for a few days.

Written by Larry Cordle and Larry Shell, first recorded on a Cordle album. But Jackson & Strait quickly made it their own. In fact, this song became viewed as AJ giving Nashville the finger. They did this song the year after the CMA wouldn't let George Jones perform "Choices" in its entirety. In protest that first year, AJ stopped his own song in the middle and instead sang "Choices" in its entirety. Hence the line "Why they even told the possum to pack up and go back home"

Oh yeah! Your vocals are totally awesome on this--one of the greatest country songs ever written. I've been playing it over and over and don't know when I'll stop. You've totally melted me.

Hi Reg, this was a hit for george strait and allan jackson, I'd say 10 years ago. They sang it as a duet. I think George strait wrote it. Thanks, BillyRay

Billy, I don't know who did the original, but man you speak the truth in this fine song! I used to get up saturday mornings and listen to the radio playing all these greats. I gotta thank you my friend, this was like deja vu all over again. I do think Hank would give this new cookie cutter stuff a good run tho, he was for real and ya still can't beat that, even with a drum machine! LOL!
