cobbledrop ::: Favorites 2007-12-28 01:01:40 Kep in mind though that the stage and the studio are different places. They needed to use a device like laughter to fill in the gaps that silence and different looks can't. It's a different matter in a film. If you start laughing and stuff, it looks obnoxius on film, but it seems perfect on stage, especially if the actor is selling their character right in the first place. __________________________________________________
cobbledrop ::: Favorites 2007-12-28 00:59:18 Exactly! Film, in my opinion, is far too easy. It takes some talent, yes, but only the talent to want to do it. For stage theatre, you need to be able to get through your lines, do all of the choreography, stay in character, and have passion all at the same time and with only one shot. Also, these kinds of performances deal with real people and real problems, and people of the day aren't able to comprehend that. __________________________________________________
cobbledrop ::: Favorites 2007-12-28 00:46:31 This is the most wasted part of the movie, I think. They cut WAY too much of it out. There were endless possibilities......So much could've been done. This is my only complaint, along with the By The Sea scene. Otherwise, this movie was perfect. __________________________________________________

BlueHat15 ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 18:58:53 High School Musical was God-awful. __________________________________________________
kaylaConspriacy ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 12:42:56 Yeah it's the way different interpretation I'm having difficulty with. Parts of it are still kinda hard to quite grasp (A Little Priest being one of them, it just doesn't quite click for me) I'm hoping after a few repeat viewings it'll come together. It just seems like it's easier to love the film if you haven't been exposed and grown up on the earlier versions __________________________________________________
CutiePerson ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 12:42:15 Omg yes! actually even when he's not singing he's sexy __________________________________________________
theatredork4ever ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 02:42:17 Yes. Try to understand that Burton wasn't trying to go for Show Broadway theater, that we are all used to....but the horror of the Tail of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. (WITH MUSIC) lol. __________________________________________________
kaylaConspriacy ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 00:54:37 I know. I guess it's still kinda of hard for me to get. I'm trying because I really want to LOVE this movie. I'm gonna see it a second time soon. Maybe it takes a few times to sink in for me being so used to everything else. __________________________________________________
theatredork4ever ::: Favorites 2007-12-27 00:36:41 You have to understand that Sondheim helped make the cuts and Sweeney Todd had his blessings. He was working with Burton. __________________________________________________
theatredork4ever ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 18:47:13 High School Musical, should not have the honor of being called a musical. Disney is destroying musicals. That is why people hate them! This musical however, people can see that it is more cinematic then others, and that was what Burton was going for. __________________________________________________
kaylaConspriacy ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 14:15:10 The humor in the song is the fact that they're laughing and dancing at the thought of serving people in pies. And I missed the jokes too. The fiddle player part is my favorite bit in the song and they cut it out. Though, I'd hate to have seen what they would have done with it in the movie __________________________________________________
kaylaConspriacy ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 14:13:44 Exactly! This is a DARK COMEDY. But it's TOO dark so there's not a lot of comedy in this song (I will say though in the rest of the movie I was cracking up a lot). As for the "It's Burton's interpretation so it's supposed to be dark," if it's overshadowing the comedy it's going to distort the meaning of the song. Yes, it's his vision but he's also distorting what Sondheim saw when he wrote it. __________________________________________________
