Description: Overview This album is a tribute to Mötley Crüe, heavy metal's bad boys since the mid-80's, featuring up & coming bands lacking established styles or identities. Most of the tracks are bland rehashes of Crüe classics that don't do much if anything to add a new twist to the originals. Don't waste your money on this one. The Review Indulgence, Inc. - A Tribute To Mötley Crüe is another tribute album produced by Dwell Records who have quickly made a name for themselves by releasing tributes to longtime heavy metal acts such as Iron Maiden, Dio, Judas Priest and, in this case, Mötley Crüe. The Crüe is a great choice for a tribute CD since their larger than life glam metal/arena superstar status in the 80's influenced many of the younger up & coming metal bands today. I picked this CD up as soon as I saw it because I'm a diehard Crüe fan and I love cover tunes. At the time I hadn't seen it before nor heard of it, so I threw down $17 and change to take this one home with me (apparently the disc was just released that week). Soon as I got to the car, I popped it in my CD player eager to hear what I hoped what would be some interesting takes on these Crüe classics. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The Bad All the tracks are performed by no-name bands that definitely fit the "up & coming" billing. I have no problem with that. But rather than doing their own take on these well known Crüe songs, most of the bands just play by the numbers reproducing the songs as they were originally recorded. Oh boy, now that's exciting. If I wanted to hear these tracks as they were originally recorded, I can listen to my Mötley Crüe CDs! Indulgence, Inc. is far from being indulgent. What I was looking for was some inventiveness of the part of these up & comers. Instead, it's like listening to one bad cover band after another giving a hack performance. Since I have heard none of these bands perform their own material, I can't comment on whether or not these selected bands are good in their own right. Based on some general investigation, many of these bands have not even released a CD nor been signed to a major label yet. What I do know is that most of these bands provide painful renditions of the Crüe tunes I've come love since first discovering the Crüe back in 1984. Some Good There are a couple of tunes that defy my overall opinion on this disc. The Tuuli Girls enthusiastic version of "Girls, Girls, Girls" is quite a gas. Jenny, Swain and Claire's upbeat, pop rock tempos add a refreshing spin on the Crüe's fondness for strip joints around the world. Another highlight is Dementia adding a certain "chunkiness" to the stirring "Starry Eyes" track. This is one of my all-time favorite Crüe tunes and now it's fortified with heavier riffs and crunchy chops thanks to Dementia who strayed slightly away from the original to give it their personal flavor. Summary As with most tribute albums, there's bound to be hits and misses. Unfortunately, in the case of Indulgence, Inc., there's a lot more misses. Sadly, my disappointment over this CD has prevented me from picking up any of the other Dwell Records tribute discs. I do not recommend purchasing this one unless you find it used for five bucks. I think a couple of the better tracks are worth that at least but not worth the full price of admission (I'm still sore from spending $17 on it!). If you love 80's metal and cover tunes like me, I highly recommend the I Love Metal and Metal Rules compilations featuring an array of emo, ska and punk bands taking on familiar heavy metal hits including the Crüe's "On With The Show" (on both discs!). Cleopatra Records also offers a Mötley Crüe tribute called Shout At The Remix offering remixes by industrial music masters. There's another Mötley Crüe tribute CD released as an independent by Pulse Records called Kickstart My Heart that hasn't reached my ears yet. I know there's more established artists featured on that one so I suspect it's a lot better than Indulgence, Inc. Visit this URL if you are interested: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~cruekiss/k...
